Easter Crafting Fun Continued

Easter crafting fun continued; cute hanging tree decorations using DAS air dried clay

DIY Easter hanging tree decorations with DAS modelling clay.

Looking for a fun, creative way to celebrate Easter with the whole family? These cute hanging decorations made from DAS air-hardening modelling clay are perfect for kids and adults alike. Create charming bunnies, chicks, carrots, and colourful Easter eggs to hang from an Easter tree, decorate your home, or gift to loved ones!

Follow our simple step-by-step guide to make your own clay masterpieces — no kiln or baking required!

What you will need: click the direct links below for more information.

Step 1: Create Your Stencils

Before you start shaping the clay, sketch out your Easter designs on paper. Keep it simple — think:

  • A cute Easter Bunny

  • A little Chick

  • A decorated Egg

  • A classic Carrot

Once you are happy with your pencil sketches, cut them out to create your reusable stencils. These will help you get nice, clean shapes from the clay.

Step 2: Roll Out the Clay

Take a portion of DAS modelling clay and roll it out on a flat surface (a non-stick mat or baking paper works great) until it is about 5mm thick or more. Try to keep the thickness even for best results this will prevent curling and cracking during drying.

3: Trace & Cut Your Shapes

Lay your paper stencils on the rolled-out clay and gently trace around them with a craft knife or clay tool. Peel away the excess clay, and you will be left with your cute Easter shapes!

Pro tip: Use a straw or skewer to carefully poke a hole near the top of each shape so you can thread a ribbon through once they are dry.

4: Let Them Dry

Leave your clay decorations to air-dry completely. Drying times can vary depending on the thickness and humidity, but aim for 24-48 hours. Flip them occasionally to help both sides dry evenly.

5: Paint Your Decorations

Once dry, it is time for the fun part — painting! Use acrylic paints to bring your Easter characters to life. Pastel colours work beautifully for eggs, while bright oranges and greens make those carrots pop! Once your paint has dried you can use any marker over the top to add small details.

If you wish to protect your designs? Once the paint is dry, you can apply a thin layer of clear sealant for a glossy, long-lasting finish. However acrylic paint usually dries waterproof.

Step 6: Add the Finishing Touch

Thread a piece of ribbon or string through the hole in each decoration. Tie the ends together to create a loop for hanging.

Now you are ready to decorate your Easter tree, mantle, or gift basket with your handmade clay ornaments!

A Craft for the Whole Family

This project is perfect for a rainy afternoon, a weekend craft session, or an Easter party activity. It is simple, mess-free (mostly!), and lets everyone’s creativity shine. Plus, these little decorations make lovely keepsakes or gifts for friends and family.
