About

I'm a full-time professional visual artist working in acrylics and mixed media from my studio in Norfolk. On location I sketch in watercolour and other media but in the studio where I produce my most of my work, I'm an intuitive and experimental painter. I like to work from memory, to evoke my experience of a place rather than produce a recognisable representation. Places that inspire me range from the North Norfolk saltmarsh coast, the North York Moors, the rugged coastline of Cornwall, to the light-filled stretches of the Venetian lagoon.

I grew up in Manchester close to the brooding Pennine hills, but spent 15 years as a graphic designer on the Isle of Skye, where, inspired by the incredible landscape, I increasingly painted and exhibited. I now live in Norfolk, inspired by a very different but no less exciting landscape of saltmarshes, coastline and reedbeds.

In the last few years I have exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour in 2016, 2017 and 2018; and at the Bankside Gallery with the Royal Watercolour Society in 2018 and 2019; I was a finalist in Artist & Illustrator Magazine's 'Artist of the Year' in 2016; and a finalist in The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition in 2014. I exhibit throughout the UK and my work is held in national and international private collections.

I am a member of the Institute of East Anglian Artists (IEA)
