Hop Into Creativity: Painting Rabbits on a Round Canvas This Easter!

Lightly pencil your image onto the canvas. Don’t use a soft pencil as this may darken your colours when you apply the paint. If you think you have gone too dark with your graphite you can erase your outline slightly, just enough so you may follow your composition. |

We created a bright turquoise background colour using Artdiscount Studio Heavy Body Acrylic paints; Lemon Yellow 215, Cerulean Blue 425 and Emerald Green 559. Just add small increments of colour to create your perfect hue. We block-painted the background first, with the intention of painting a second coat once the tulips had been painted. We mixed up some Vandyke Brown 690 with some Yellow Ochre 676 and a small amount of Titanium White 104 to create a mid brown. To darken the mid brown, we used a small amount of Phthlo Blue 450, to create a warmer shade we added Orange 304 to the mid Brown

We applied the darker hues first on the rabbit. Then we alternated between the mid and warm brown hues applying the paint by using small strokes in the direction the fur would grow on the rabbit. ARTdiscount Watercolour Brush Set of 5 Brushes worked really well on this small canvas, allowing us to achieve the marks we wanted to create and enabling all types of brush strokes. |

| A richer, warmer tone of brown was added to the rabbit's fur to create a multi coloured textured coat. | Once the fur was complete we painted the eyes and added some pink details to the nose, ears and a few flecks of pink around the paws. |

| Emerald Green 559 and Lemon Yellow 215 were used for the tulip stems whilst Rose 336, Magenta 307 and Titanium White were mixed to create a variety of hues for the tulip blooms. To warm up the Pink Hue, you could use a small amount of Scarlet , Vermillion or Orange |
The grass was applied using a variety of tones, Lemon Yellow mixed with Emerald Green. Darker Green tones were created by adding a small amount of Phthalo Blue. Small flecks of pink were added to the grass to create colour balance.
Just by adding any Blue to darken or any Yellow to lighten, endless combinations of greens can be created.

A second background colour was applied to flatten the negative space around the tulips and the rabbit’s whiskers were applied to the nose. Some more highlights and details were applied to the tulips to make them pop! The edge of the canvas was painted with Studio Heavy Body Acrylic Gold, a warm, opaque gold that gives a lovely Vintage feel. After applying the paint to the edges, it was dry brushed over the background and the grass. See images below. |
