The Wharfe River is born high in the rich moors of Langstrothdale Chase. Its waters leave home bubbling with youthful energy, in search of peaceful surroundings in which to settle. As the world opens to the lazy emerald hills and turquoise skies of the Wharfedale Valley, the water’s exuberance eases into a comfortable meander. This is a place to take your time and breathe deep the open spaces.
There, at the edge of the Wharfe, an English Longhorn Cow sates its thirst. Don’t let the broad looping horns of the Longhorn unsettle your calm for even one moment. Unlike the Texas Longhorn, this breed is docile and perfectly happy to share a spot at the stream for a refreshing draft of water. Since it’s introduction in the 16th century from the north of England, the English Longhorn has enjoyed an idyllic life here amidst the sweet waving grasses and lapping shores. In the Wharfedale Valley, there is always a world of sky to survey and grassy fields to tend.
