‘Kissing Gates’ were designed to allow people to pass through whilst preventing livestock from straying. What’s the story behind the name? Is it merely an engineering term referring to the gate merely kissing the post rather than being secured with a latch? Or is there a romantic origin? Originally, Kissing Gates only allowed one person a time to pass through resulting in the unfortunate scenario of loving couples being separated by the gate. Never mind, any hard feelings from ‘shutting’ the gate on your lover can be healed with an over-the-gate kiss. This gate leads into a meadow on a crisp autumn morning with the sun breaking through the mist revealing the brilliance of the season.
