In the township of Tredington at a sleepy bend on the main road to Stratford, they choose a simpler approach to time hopping. This one passes on the science fiction technology in favor of the old reliable Pleasure Carriage with its whopping 2-horsepower “energy reactor”.
Just step inside, close the door, and relax in simple comfort and elegance as the timeless countryside unfolds around you, much as it was four centuries ago. The clack of the the horses’ hooves sets a gentle rhythm to put your mind at ease and your eyes on alert for ancient treasures along your path. Your two horses set a leisurely pace as they jaunt through a bit of the 5,300 pristine acres that make up the full parish grounds of St. Gregory’s Church. You’ll notice the proud spire of St. Gregory’s – the tallest of its kind in the region. Yet, as peaceful as the countryside is now, the front door of this venerable structure still shows the bullet marks left over from the English Civil War (1642–1651). The main village just around the next bend is a cozy collection of stone cottages with slated roofs. Their mullioned windows are opened wide to fill the streets with the smell of fresh food and the sound of good company. Perhaps you can stop here for some refreshment, but don’t dally too long, there are still centuries of wonders to experience right outside your carriage window.
